County Commissioner Debbie Lieberman to Speak at United Nations Summit

Montgomery County Commissioner Debbie Lieberman will be a featured speaker at the Power of Collaboration Summit at the United Nations in New York City on Monday, March 6, 2017.  Commissioner Lieberman will provide special remarks on “Accelerating Women’s Equal Economic Participation” with a focus on Montgomery County’s MicroEnterprise Grant Program.

“It is a tremendous honor to represent Montgomery County at this United Nations summit to share our remarkable progress in strengthening our small businesses through the MicroEnterprise Grant Program,” said Commissioner Lieberman.  “Most of these grants have assisted women-owned businesses that support jobs and economic impact in our community.”

According to the Center for Women’s Business Research, women-owned firms have an economic impact of $3 trillion that translates into the creation and/or maintenance of 23 million jobs, 16 percent of all U.S. jobs.

The MicroEnterprise Program was developed in 2016 to help small, for-profit companies in Montgomery County, Ohio grow their businesses through grants from $2,500 to $25,000.  The program emphasizes socially and economically disadvantaged businesses.

Over the past seven months, $200,000 has been awarded to 16 local companies through the MicroEnterprise Program.  14 of the businesses are female-owned and 13 are minority business enterprises.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of Montgomery County and we are proud to announce a second round of grant funding totaling $500,000,” added Commissioner Lieberman.  “Montgomery County, Ohio is committed to investing in people…our citizens, our employees and our businesses.”
