FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALEX BELL ROAD BRIDGE CLOSURE IN WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP
Paul Gruner, P.E., P.S., Montgomery County Engineer, announced today that Alex Bell Road will be closed at the Bridge just west of McEwen Road for the total rehabilitation of the bridge over Holes Creek, and a detour will be in place. Construction is planned to start on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, with the closure starting almost immediately. The bridge will be reopened to traffic by November 30, 2017, weather permitting.
Through traffic will be required to take the detours, which will be clearly posted. The westbound detour for the project is Paragon Road to Miamisburg-Centerville Rd (SR725) to Yankee Street to Mad River Rd. The eastbound detour for the project is Mad River Road to Whipp Road to Far Hills Avenue. A map of the detours and other information about the project is contained on the Montgomery County Engineer webpage at: http://www.mcohio.org/Goff_AlexBell_Detours.pdf
The detour map is also attached to this notice.
The existing 118 foot-long bridge carrying approximately 12,700 vehicles a day has reached the end of its serviceable life and will be extensively rehabilitated. The primary work will be total replacement of the three span adjacent prestressed concrete box beam superstructure with three span prestressed concrete spread box beams and composite concrete deck. Brumbaugh Construction, Inc. of Arcanum, Ohio was the successful low bidder at $703,442.00 and will be constructing the project. Funds were secured through an Ohio Department of Transportation State/Federal exchange program and the Ohio Public Works Commission for the construction of the project.
The patience of the public, their following of the posted detours, and their careful, safe driving during this period is greatly appreciated.
