BUILDING REGULATIONS COVID-19 PANDEMIC POLICY, EFFECTIVE: MARCH 17, 2020

Effective immediately and continuing until further notice, Montgomery County Building Regulations will use the following temporary policy to do our part in stopping the spread of the new Coronavirus – COVID-19.

This a developing public health situation, and we are continuing to monitor the situation. Because of the unknowns with this pandemic, this policy may change in the near future to protect employees and public health. We will endeavor to conduct emergency inspections such as building damage assessments and emergency utility reconnects as appropriate to protect first responders and those with urgent health needs.

OFFICE:

  • Our office at the Montgomery County Administration Building has closed for in-person visits. 
  • Building permit applications may be downloaded and completed online at www.mchio.org/build.
  • Send applications with your drawings via mail or packaged delivery service to:

    • If you have an emergency, call our main office line – 937-225-4622.

RESIDENTIAL:

  • New work and alterations in occupied residential buildings may be inspected as long as sufficient social distances can be maintained.
  • Inspections that require entry into an occupied residence will be limited. 
  • Where we have concerns about entering the property, we can meet the contractor at the property, but only the contractor will enter, and show us digital (photographic or video) evidence of compliance.
  • Other inspection requests will be reviewed based on public health, safety, and availability of staff.

COMMERCIAL:

  • New work and alterations in occupied commercial buildings may be inspected as long as sufficient social distances can be maintained.
  • Third Party Inspections must be pre-approved by Montgomery County Building Regulations.
  • All other inspections will be reviewed based on public health, safety and the availability of limited staff.
