The detour for southbound traffic will be west on Stroop Road to SR 741, south on SR 741 to Alex Bell Road and east on Alex Bell Road to Lamme Road. The existing bridge is a three-span, 155' long, 32' wide, prestressed concrete I-beam bridge built in 1957. It is the oldest prestressed concrete bridge in Montgomery County, along with a similar one on Diamond Mill Road. It is categorized as Structurally Deficient and Functionally Obsolete, and the structural condition is rated poor. It, therefore, requires total replacement. The new bridge will be a three-span, 187' long, 56' wide, structure composed of spread prestressed concrete box beams with a concrete slab. The width includes two 6' wide sidewalks. In addition to the new bridge, the project includes a new traffic signal at Lamme Road and Alex Bell Road with decorative mast arm poles with streetlights. In addition, the project will include curb and sidewalk repairs south of the bridge and resurfacing ofLamme Road north of Bushwick Drive. Montgomery County Environmental Services will be installing a new 30' water line from Alex Bell Road to 1,000' north of Bushwick Drive under a separate contract; the schedule will be closely coordinated with the bridge project.
The patience ofthe public, their following ofthe posted detours and their careful, safe driving and walking during this period are greatly appreciated.
